Rapid Response
When Hurricanes Ike and Rita ravaged our community, volunteers from other Texas communities, other states, and Canada volunteered hundreds of thousands of hours of labor and donated millions of dollars in building materials and supplies. These donations and efforts made our recovery possible.
The SETIO rapid response team is our effort to ‘pay it forward’ to others who are in need. The team was formed in the fall of 2009, comprised of board members, staff and volunteers. The team collaborates with other response teams and emergency management officials to respond to disasters in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Oklahoma.
The team’s goal is to identify survivor emergency needs and fill them as quickly as possible. Needs may vary widely depending upon the event so our team is prepared to take on any mission from debris cleanup to supply and from client intake and assessment to logistical support for other first responders.
The first rule is “Give! Don’t take!” The team is totally self-contained and self supported, requiring no goods or services from the affected area or from other groups. The second rule is “Enhance and compliment. Don’t compete.” and the team arrives prepared to provide logistical support for other teams to aid them in their efforts and to provide for the survivors unique emergency needs not being provided by other groups.
