What is SETIO?

Southeast Texas Interfaith Organization for Disaster Recovery (SETIO) is a faith-based, long-term disaster recovery organization serving 29 counties of Southeast Texas.  SETIO was created in the Fall of 2005 in the aftermath of Hurricane Rita by local clergy and community members with a mission to help those most vulnerable members in the community especially the uninsured and underinsured elderly, disabled and single parent families.

SETIO's current focus is addressing the needs of the most vulnerable families in Southeast Texas who have suffered major damages due to the more recent Hurricane Ike in 2008 by working as a catalyst to expand the scale and pace of recovery. This is accomplished through increasing coordination with community service providers, sustained mobilization of outside and local volunteer resources, and utilization of both commercial contract and volunteer labor.

Today, SETIO consists of diverse local congregations, faith-based community service organizations, businesses, state and local government agencies and national disaster recovery organizations such as Catholic Charities, Christian Reformed World Relief Committee, Disciples of Christ, Lutheran Social Services Disaster Response, Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, United Methodist Committee On Relief, Mennonites as well as many others.
